Jan.-May temperatures hottest on record in Okla.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The average daily temperature for the first five months of 2012 are the hottest on record in Oklahoma - and drought appears to be creeping back into the state.

This comes after the summer of 2011 set national and state records for heat. An average daily temperature of 89.1 degrees in July 2011 in Oklahoma was the country's highest monthly average temperature ever, while the summer months were the hottest in records dating to 1895.

The National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center is forecasting above normal temperatures for summer 2012 - but also is predicting a near average summer for rainfall.

The Weather Service's Forrest Mitchell says the rains would help hold temperatures below last summer's record-setting levels.
