Po Boys Picnic is a group of friends who decided several years ago to put together a family-friendly event with music, food and other activities to benefit local individuals in times of need. A different beneficiary is selected each time.
We are now up to Po Boys Picnic IX, and the group has outgrown its original location and holds the event at the RWR Arena in Denison, Texas. Originally just showcasing music and food, the event is now centered around a Little Britches Rodeo with added events, bounce houses, a horseshoe tournament, live & silent auctions, and continues to showcase great local music.
The next Po Boys Picnic will be held on Sept. 19, 2015, at the RWR Arena in Denison. This benefit will be held for Jarren McTee of Farmersville, Texas. Jarren is a 9-year-old child who has been diagnosed with “HIE” Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy. All profits generated from the event go directly to the beneficiary.

Historic Uses of North Texas Plants

Nov 21, 2015 9:30 a.m.

1 Nature Place, McKinney, TX 75069
Talk led by Carol Clark, Blackland Prairie Master Naturalist, Native Plant Society President
When settlers of European descent first moved into the North Texas area, there was no such thing as the modern "shopping trip." Stores were few and far between, and weren't guaranteed to have what the settlers needed anyway, so they had to be resourceful. They hunted, grew crops and foraged to fill most of their needs. Learning from the local Native Americans, they discovered how North Texas native plants could be used for food, medicine, shelter, fiber, dyes and more. You'll look at some of our most common local plants in a whole new way after this presentation.

36 North Plaza, Paris, TX, 75460
“Damn Yankees” is a 1950s musical theatre classic with a book by George Abbott and Douglas Wallop and music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The PCT production of “Damn Yankees” is directed and choreographed by Christine Sheehan, with musical direction by Phillip Briggs. “Damn Yankees” runs June 18-21 and 25-28 at the historic Plaza Theatre in Downtown Paris. Performance times are 7:30 PM Thursday through Saturday, and 2:30 PM on Sundays.

“Damn Yankees” begins when Joe Boyd, a fan of the hapless Washington Senators, meets Mr. Applegate, a devilishly funny man who promises Joe that he can boost his team to fame and the World Series... in exchange for his soul. Hilarity ensues as Joe tries to help his team and get back to his wife, Meg. Along the way we meet the lovable Senators players and their manager, Mr. Van Buren, the beguiling Lola, ace reporter Gloria, and many more. The cast features Clay Wienecke as Joe Hardy, Riley Collard as Mr. Applegate, Haley Hines as Lola, Will Walker as Joe Boyd, Tammy Glaze as Meg, Keaton Raney as Van Buren, and Robyn Huizinga as Gloria, plus many more talented local actors.

Paris Community Theatre is thrilled to bring this summertime treat to audiences thanks to the generous sponsorship of Kimberly-Clark and Lamar National Bank. Information and ticket reservations are available at (903)-784-0259 or www.brownpapertickets.com.
