Janice Tracy, author of true crime book, The Juke Joint King of the Mississippi Hills, will talk about her experience in researching and writing her book as well as sign copies. A portion of the proceeds from books sold at this event will benefit the Friends of the Van Alstyne Library.

The event is in memory of Bob Hillerby and all proceeds donated will go to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 973. Bonham Relay for Life
This year the event will be at the Bonham Civic Center
This is the theme for this year’s Relay for Life event in Bonham this year. Each year millions of people participate in Relay for Life events around the country. Every town either big or small will have Survivors, Caregivers, and general participants walking around a track, down the street, or in a field to raise money for the eradication of cancer in this nation and around the world. It is a long fight, andthat is why we walk each year. We all look forward to year when there will no longer a need to hold these events. We look forward to the day when cancer is no more.
This year the event will be at the Bonham Civic Center (old National Guard Armory) on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from noon to midnight. We are looking teams to participate and raise money to cure cancer. To register or to join an existing team, go to www.relayforlife.org/bonhamtx.

It's time to say goodbye and good riddance to old man winter and celebrate the arrival of spring. Everyone is invited to this free event. Pack a picnic lunch and bring your kites, bikes, and kids out for a day of celebrating the beginning of a new Spring Season. There will be live entertainment, a bike rodeo with free helmets to the first 100 kids, kite flying contests, bounce houses, face painting, food vendors and a Texoma Cycling Club ride. If old man winter decides to rain on our day, the rain makeup day will fall on the following Saturday, April 12.

“Big Texas Breakfast Day” Open House

Come celebrate the anniversary of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s 1946 visit to the house and city where he was born. This was the first time Eisenhower saw the Birthplace house as an adult. His hosts were U.S. Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn and Miss Jennie Jackson, a local resident who headed efforts to turn the house into a museum. General Eisenhower enjoyed a “big Texas breakfast” in the dining room of the Birthplace before taking part in a parade and a community barbecue in his honor.
Enjoy free thematic tours of the Birthplace house featuring the Big Texas Breakfast and preparations for General Eisenhower’s Visit. See a Big Texas Breakfast exhibit in the Visitor Center featuring objects, photographs, and letters from Sam Rayburn and Jennie Jackson. Light refreshments will be served.
