ARDMORE, Okla. -- Several dozen wild mustangs and burrows will soon be auctioned off in an effort to protect others in the wild. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is holding the auction at the Hardy Murphy Coliseum this Thursday through Sunday.
Land management officials say the purpose of the auction is to thin the wild herds. You can adopt a horse for about $125, but keep in mind these horses are wild and have not been broken.
"Adopting is a very, very economical way to get into horse ownership. It’s a $125 fee, is what’s said by law, so you can adopt one of these beautiful mustangs for as little as $125," Paul McGuire with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management says.
There is also a horse show featuring wild mustangs that have been adopted and trained during the auction.
