UNDATED (AP) - Heavy rains overnight have flooded some major roads in the Wichita Falls area.

A flash flood warning was in effect a region from Decatur to Wichita Falls early Tuesday. Standing water left some stretches of roads and highways impassable. Among those were parts of Interstate 44 between Wichita Falls and Burkburnett.

In Clay County, a sheriff's dispatcher reported parts of State Highway 79 were underwater but "still drivable."

The flooding came at the opposite end of the state from disastrous flooding in Starr County in the Rio Grande Valley.

A spokesman for the Starr County Sheriff's Department says at least 243 people were evacuated to a shelter at Roma, where an estimated 38 people were already seeking refuge.

Natividad Gonzalez says the evacuations took place last night. He said he was not aware of any injuries from yesterday's 13 inches of heavy rain that poured.

Gonzalez says the flood waters are, quote, "going down and the main highways are open."
