AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Officials at a southeast Texas school district say when they took "corrective measures" in response to allegations that teachers were violating students' religious freedoms.

Navasota assistant superintendent Rory S. Gesch made the statement late Thursday after the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas filed an open records request with the district earlier in the day.

In an e-mail, Gesch said several staff in-service training sessions will be held before school starts to ensure that the constitutional rights of students are protected.

The ACLU says it has received complaints that Gideon Bibles were distributed in Navasota schools and that teachers displayed crosses.
