SAN ANTONIO, TX (AP) - Seven South Texas police officers have come under investigation over their handling of a wreck involving an off-duty sergeant and his patrol car.

San Antonio police Chief William McManus on Monday declined to name the officers and says they are not facing charges at this time.

McManus says the sergeant, who apparently had been drinking, has been put on administrative leave over last Thursday's accident. The patrol car struck a highway wall.

The other six officers are on administrative duty.

McManus says there was an attempt to take the sergeant home and remove potential evidence from the vehicle. An officer who was not present but did not participate in the alleged cover up reported the incident.

Toxicology results have not been released. The patrol car had minor damage.
