LIVINGSTON, Texas (AP) - Death row inmate Hank Skinner says
Twila Jean Busby was the love of his life after they met at
Alcoholics Anonymous.
So Skinner says there was no reason for him to explode in rage
more than 16 years ago on New Year's Eve, swinging an ax handle to
fatally batter the 40-year-old woman.
Her two grown sons were fatally stabbed at their home in Pampa.
Those victims were 22-year-old Elwin "Scooter" Caler and
20-year-old Randy Busby.
Skinner acknowledged being at the scene but says he was passed
out and sick from using alcohol and codeine.
Skinner, who faces lethal injection Wednesday in Huntsville,
also has been among death row inmates found with contraband cell
phones. He's denied wrongdoing.
Defense attorney Rob Owen says there's DNA evidence that has
never been tested and the appeals continue. Prosecutors oppose new
testing.
