Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible today. Severe weather threat is low, but lightning, gusty winds and possibly some small hail are in the forecast. Please slow down if you find yourself in heavy rain.
7-15-05 - A Sherman home was mostly destroyed by fire Friday afternoon, as a thunderstorm passed through the area. Firefighters aren't sure if lightning caused the blaze at the corner of Rainey and Elm, but neighbors say it looks like it.
They say it was lightning, thundering, and their electricity was flickering on and off when the fire started.
A family of four lived there; some of them were inside when the fire started. But everyone did make it out safely. They were also able to get the family pets, two dogs and two cats, out as well.
Firefighters had the fire out in about thirty minutes. At this time, though, the extent of the damage is not known. Once the fire was under control, firefighters were able to get some keepsakes, like photos, out of the house.
