7-16-05 - A bomb squad robot helped bring a standoff to an end late Friday night in Durant. Aaron Cooper surrendered at 11:30pm after authorities made contact with him at a home in the 500 block of 4th street.
Authorities suspect he was involved in a chase earlier that day. He's also suspected in other crimes this week.
State, local, and federal agents surrounded the home around 6pm, and by 9pm were evacuating the entire square block. Witnesses describe the scene as tense.
The manhunt began around 11:30am, after a man and a woman were involved in a pursuit with authorities. The pair ditched a car around Sawmill Road and highway 70. Lawmen suspect that they tried to steal a car later on and also ran a road block.
Once he arrived at the home on 4th street, Cooper's girlfriend called police and left the home. Authorities told us at 10pm that they'd had no contact with Cooper, and were planning to use the robot to check the inside of the home and talk to Cooper.
First News will have more on this story tonight at 6pm.
