8-30-05 - Three veteran employees of the city of Gainesville will likely be forced out of their jobs due to budget cuts.

Hoping to save $240,000, the city will not fill five open positions as well as eliminating the jobs of the assistant police chief, the community development director and the project manager for the public works department.

City Manager Mike Land says cutting jobs is the only way to balance the budget without raising taxes.

The city council held it's last budget workshop on Tuesday night. They’ll vote to adopt the budget on September 6th.
