Delay Backs Wright Amendment Appeal

WASHINGTON (AP) - US House Majority Leader Tom DeLay today said
he'd vote to repeal the Wright Amendment that prohibits long-distance direct flights from Dallas' Love Field.

DeLay's comments follow a flurry of activity in Washington that includes Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe getting involved.

Inhofe is proposing a bill to prohibit commercial flights to and from Love Field where Southwest Airlines is based. Southwest wants the Wright Amendment repealed.

The Wright Amendment passed in 1979 and was intended to help the
growth of then-new Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport where
American Airlines is based.

American has about 7,000 employees at its maintenance base in Tulsa.
