OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - House and Senate negotiators are still at odds over how to divide billions of federal dollars in highway money among the states.

Republican Senator Jim Inhofe says the negotiators are close to
making a decision but still need more time.

The House and Senate were forced to enact the tenth extension of
the highway law which expired in September 2003.

The latest extension will keep money flowing for construction projects and to pay federal highway officials through next Wednesday.

Congress leaves at the end of next week for a five-week summer
recess. Lawmakers are under strong pressure to get a bill to the
president's desk before they depart.
