7-27-05 – A major wreck blocked rush-hour traffic in Collin County Wednesday morning after a semi-truck careened off a bridge north of McKinney on Highway 75. The cab of the 18-wheeler landed in a creek bed below while the trailer remained on the highway.
McKinney Police say a white Ford F150 truck was traveling south around 5:40 a.m. when the driver lost control on the slick roads and crashed into a Big Lots semi-truck. The semi jackknifed and hit a bridge railing near Wilmeth Road. The cab of the 18-wheeler landed in a creek bed.
A second semi hit the white pick-up truck – sending it into the center median of the highway.
The driver of the pickup was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. The drivers of the semi trucks were not hurt.
The southbound lanes of Highway 75 have been shut down and traffic is being diverted from the southbound lands just north of the accident scene. One northbound lane is also closed.
Today, TX DOT crews will check the bridge to determine if it is safe for travel. A temporary railing will have to be installed.
Traffic on southbound 75 will be closed for most of the day.
