7-28-05 – The Texoma Regional Blood Center supplies five local hospitals with blood, but because of the unpredictability of when or how much blood is needed, the center is constantly on the lookout for more donors.
“If people could get into the habit of giving blood on a regular basis, every 56 days, it would be a wonderful gift to this community,” says Dee Dee Moorehead, Director of Donor Resources for the blood center.
Moorehead emphasizes that blood is needed year-round, not just during crises. She says the summer months are slowest for donations. The center needs 250 pints a week, especially donors of the universal blood type, O-negative.
To help their efforts, the blood center just got a new bus to deliver nurses, beds, and supplies for indoor blood drives. Blood bank members dedicated the new bus to former director Pat Richardson, who passed away in May, after 27 years of service.
