8-1-05 - The Vietnam Wall Experience left Denison one week ago but mementos left behind by visitors are now a permanent part of the city. During a ceremony at Denison’s Fairview Cemetery Monday night, everything from flowers and photos to letters and medals were placed inside a tomb.
Some 37,000 people visited the wall over the three days it was set up at the Denison High School and many of them purposefully left behind those items. The organizers of the traveling wall decided all of these things could not be forgotten.
Just after sunset, the vault was lowered into the ground. A grave marker will be made for the site honoring all five branches of the military.
