A combination of very strong winds, falling temperatures and frozen precipitation will make Wednesday and Wednesday night dangerous for motorists. Freezing rain and sleet will change to snow before ending late Wednesday or early Thursday. Wind chills of 5 to 10 degrees...with air temperatures in the low 20s...can be expected. Roads will be icy Thursday morning but should melt during the day as skies clear and temperatures rise above freezing.
8-5-05 - Gainesville Police assisted in slowing down a high-speed suspect.
A man driving a Cadillac Escalade SUV nearly rammed into a Dallas county sheriff's transport vehicle early Friday morning.
The chase originated in Dallas, and Dallas deputies along with Denton police chased the SUV north on I-35 where Gainesville officers were waiting.
Gainesville officers laid down road spikes blowing out the SUV's tires. After the vehicle came to a stop, Denton police made the arrest. The man is now in the Denton County jail facing felony charges of evading an officer.
Police believe the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol.
