9-1-05 - Hurricane evacuee Ashley Schexnayder wanted to do something to recognize the outpouring of gifts and kindness from the staff at Bayshore Medical Center so she named her newborn son Jeremiah Bayshore Schexnayder.
"They knew what a predicament we were in because of the hurricane," she said in a news release from the hospital on Wednesday. "They treated me like my mama treats me. That's why I named my baby's middle name 'Bayshore.'" she said.
The 19-year-old single mom gave birth to her first baby at 9:27 p.m. Tuesday, the hospital said.
She had made a 23-hour trip from Louisiana with family and friends and spent one night in a hotel before going into labor Tuesday afternoon.
A doctor donated some clothing and nurses collected money to pay for a hotel room and gift certificates for new baby clothes.
