9-2-05 - For thousands of suddenly homeless Louisiana residents, it was an upgrade in domes, but not without more difficulties and uncertainty.
Buses were running continually into parking lots surrounding the Astrodome on Thursday, bringing thousands of people from the steaming-hot Superdome to escape Hurricane Katrina. But by late in the night, the flow was temporarily halted with a population of 11,325, less than half the estimated 23,000 people expected.
After more than two hours with people waiting on buses in the parking lot, officials decided early Friday to process the other arriving refugees and begin housing people in the adjacent Reliant Center, where the Houston Texans play football, said Houston press secretary Patrick Trahan.
It wasn't immediately clear if others would be housed at the Astrodome.
Meanwhile, Texas Gov. Rick Perry announced that Dallas would host 25,000 more refugees at Reunion Arena and 25,000 others would relocate to a San Antonio warehouse at KellyUSA, a city-owned complex that once was home to an Air Force base.
