9-10-05 – Sherman voters approved a 77 million dollar bond package for Sherman schools Saturday. School officials say the bond passed overwhelmingly with 60 percent of the vote. The funds will pay for new classrooms and repairs.
This was Sherman ISD’s first bond election in 11 years.
Earlier this week, Plainview ISD announced they will consider postponing this October’s bond election because of the potential financial impact of Hurricane Katrina on voters. However, Sherman school officials went ahead with their election this weekend.
Early voting last month drew 1,500 voters in Sherman. Polls today drew about the same amount of voters. Early voters passed the bond overwhelmingly, but Saturday voters voted largely against the bond.
