9-15-05 - Her mom and dad watched through a window, along with a brother and sister, and at the last second it appeared Frances Newton tried to say something to them.

Then the lethal drugs hit.

Eight minutes later, Newton was pronounced dead, executed Wednesday evening for the slayings of her husband and two children 18 years ago at their Houston apartment.

The 40-year-old Newton became the 13th Texas inmate executed this year, the third woman and first black woman put to death since the state resumed carrying out capital punishment in 1982.

She also became the 11th woman executed in the United States since the Supreme Court in 1976 allowed the death penalty to resume.
