AC Commemorates Constitution

9-15-05 - An exhibit on the U.S. Constitution is on display in Austin College's Abell Library Sept.13 through 28. The exhibit includes a print of the Constitution, short biographies of each of the document's signers, excerpts from the Constitution, and a sampling of the library's book collection on Constitutional issues.

The exhibit is free and open to the public and coincides with Constitution Day, celebrated each Sept. 17, the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution in 1787. Beginning this year, all schools that receive federal funds must hold an educational program about the U.S. Constitution on Constitution Day. The educational requirement was designed to help young people better understand the significance of the Constitution.

Austin College officials are planning additional activities for Constitution Day 2006. More information about Constitution Day and the signing of the U.S. Constitution can be found on the Internet: http://usgovinfo.about.com/blconstday.htm.
