10-3-05 - The Grayson County Health Department will be able to give flu shots to children age 3 and over at public flu shot clinics. The cost of the vaccine will be $25 per dose. Children age 8 and younger who are receiving flu vaccine for the very first time should have 2 doses, at least a month apart.
The Health Department has a limited supply of vaccine for high-risk children who qualify for Vaccines for Children and are Texas residents. This vaccine must be given at the Health Department during regular immunization clinic hours. The Health Department does not yet have its supply of preservative-free flu vaccine, which is reserved for babies ages 6 months to 23 months old. That vaccine should arrive in November.
Children up to 18 years old are currently eligible for flu vaccine provided through the VFC program if they fall into any of the following groups:
High-risk children who are eligible for the Vaccines for Children program can receive their flu shots for $10 per child per visit. (If other vaccines are given at the same visit, there is no additional charge.) VFC flu shots will be given at the Sherman office, 515 N. Walnut, on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. and at the Denison office, 205 N. Houston, on Tuesdays from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. For more information call 903-893-0131 or 903-465-2878.
