2 injured in Denison accident

DENISON, Tex. -- A young woman has been flown to a Dallas hospital after failing to yield to oncoming traffic in an accident at the intersection of Highways 84 and 91 in Denison.

Denison police say a silver Chevy Cavalier failed to stop at the intersection just after three o'clock Friday afternoon and collided with a truck that had the right of way.

Life Star landed to take one victim to Dallas. The other person in that car was taken to a local hospital. The driver of the truck was treated on scene.

So far no tickets have been issued, but Denison police say the accident is still under investigation.

i think people know a days are careless when they drive there like oh there are no police so it dont matter if i ran this stop sign or if they ran a red light i think people wanna get hurt doing that stuff so it really a crazy world out there

TMC does have the equipment, but does not have the needed Doctors. There is never ortho coverage anymore and the ER Doctor can not take someone with injuries that might require and ortho Dr to treat them. This is sad, but it is not just ortho that they do not have coverage for, there are others also.

If most of the public were aware of what really happens after an accident-they would be petrified-or should be. Just because there is going to be a new facility doesnt mean it will be better although it would have to be an improvement.Besides it wasnt that long ago that an area facilty was advertising as being "the areas only Level 3 trauma center"and guess what-the keystone kops could have done better..

Neither TMC or WNJ has a trauma unit at their hospital. If someone has a trauma injury, they are automatically sent by chopper. If a victim needs to be stablized, then they can go to a local hospital. God bless the injured!!!!

If she would have paid attention to the signs & flashing lights she wouldn't have needed a hospital. The signs are there for a reason. Now she is going to have tons of medical bills & needs a new car. If the other person sues her........no one to blame but herself, Pay attention!

WHY in the world does it matter which hospital she goes to? You dont know her injuries or how severe they were. Stop arguing about which hospital is better and think about the woman that is suffering! People can be so inconsiderate!

Michael- TMC is not that far away from the accident scene. Besides, it may have been determined she had injuries too serious to be treated at TMC, and would have best been served at a trauma center at one of the Dallas-area hospitals. There's a lot more involved in assessing a patient than whether or not they are near a certain facility, and I'm not sure how well TMC is equipped to handle such cases. I'm sure they have a top-notch ER staff, but in cases such as this her injuries may have necessitated the move. She's not the first to be airlifted to Dallas due to a traumatic accident, nor will she be the last. Their facilities are mere minutes away by chopper.

I'm with Michael. Emergency medicine has become so "chopper happy" that it's almost become highway robbery. Most insurance doesn't cover these little 10-20 grand joy rides, leaving accident victims in financial ruins when equivalent care is supposedly available locally. In this case, about 2 miles away. By the time Life Star was dispatched, landed, loaded, and flown to Dallas, this patient could have crawled on her own to TMC. I can understand such trips for specialized trauma like burns(Parkland) or emergency neonatal or pediatric care(Childrens). What gives with this constant use of helicopters? Should we just sell our city Ambulances and close our 15000 sq foot, 22 bed Trauma center?

Well Texoma Medical Center is pretty much on the same level or a little higher than your Durant hospital whatever they call it. At least there are plans in Denison for a better hospital. What point is Michael really trying to make here? The lady was flown to Dallas because of obviously very serious injuries that a much larger hospital is more equiped to handle. What is wrong with that?

That is one serious intersection. People usually only barely slow down for the stop signs, and ignore the yield signs all together. Traffic lights are needed...oh, but I forgot, it takes a death for that to happen!

If only it had happened closer to a good hospital like Texoma Medical Center they wouldn't have had to use the helicopter to take her to Dallas. Oh wait...
