SHERMAN, Tex. -- A man Sherman police say sexually abused a child for more than a year is now behind bars.

Geronimo Munoz , 32, of Sherman, was arrested Thursday afternoon on a warrant for continuous sexual abuse of a child.

A new law went into effect in September designed to prosecute offenders who sexually abuse a child younger than 14 more than once over a period of 30 days. It’s a first degree felony, carrying a minimum sentence of 25 years and a maximum of 99 years in prison.

Munoz is in jail on a $100,000 bond. This is the first arrest under this law in Sherman.
