Relay for Life touches hearts across Texoma

DURANT, OK - Relay for Life is taking place all over Texoma this time of year. But Friday night, folks in Durant and Denison are walking in part- to honor those living with cancer.

People are walking the track at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex. And it's going to be a long night for these guys.

They started earlier Friday evening, and some plan to walk all night.

It's the annual nationwide relay for life and right now, it's in full swing.

Thousands came out across Texoma to walk for those who have fought some form of cancer.

In Denison, it's a sight to see. They've got everything from karaoke, bands, even a wet t-shirt contest!!

In Durant, they have Elvis!

But it's all for a good cause, remembering and celebrating those dealing with the deadly disease.

If you're interested in relay for life, the event goes through the night.

And organizers in Durant are so close to reaching their goal of $35,000, but they need your help to get there.

To "who cares about the media": Debbie simply stated that there needs to be equal coverage on both events. Not that one deserves more coverage than the other. I think it is important for the media to cover the events, because they help get the message out to people that don't know about the relay for life. If there is not enough coverage in Denison or Sherman, then people may not know that they can participate in their local communities and help in the fight against the disease. I don't think anyone's missing the point of why we were out there. I think they just want more people to be aware that we are out there, and they are welcome to join us.

I agree that Denison deserved more coverage. I guess what disappoints me most is that you "spliced" the piece together so the uninformed viewer could not tell if they were watching what took place in Sherman or Denison. Once again, although I'm a faithful viewer and reader of your website, you have fallen short of the goal of covering local events in Sherman and Denison and covering more events in Oklahoma. For this reason, many Sherman/Denison viewers watch broadcasts from Dallas. Sad, for us guys on the South Side of The Red River.

It dont matter where all the coverage was, you must have missed the main moint of why we were out there. We do not do this to get the media's attention, we do this because it's what is in our hearts.

It is a shame that you couldn't provide equal coverage in Denison where Martha Sutherland was. We had over 1000 people gathered together, over 60 teams and raised over 150,000 dollars for acs. There should have been equal coverage given to both relays since you were at both relays. The events showed a huge support for our survivors and a huge portion of our community came out to show support.

KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK! MY WIFE (NOW AN ANGEL IN HEAVEN) PASSED AWAY IN 1993 AT THE AGE OF 43. SO PLEASE KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK TO HELP OUT OTHERS TO OVERCOME THIS DEADLY DISEASE. I CONGRADULATE YOU ALL.
