SHERMAN, TX – Local blood centers are taking donations to help the victims of Friday morning's fatal bus crash. A tour bus carrying a number of Catholic Vietnamese pilgrims from Houston, Texas crashed on highway 75 in Sherman in route to Missouri. Fourteen of those passengers were killed, dozens more remain injured.

Upon receiving word of the horrific accident, Texomans were quick to respond and lined up to donate blood at the Texoma Regional Blood Center on Texoma Parkway. The center is especially in need of O-positive, O-negative, A-positive, and A-negative blood types. The Texoma Regional Blood Center will be open to take donations. Also their “Bloodmobile” will be in downtown Sherman Friday afternoon after 2:00 pm to take donations as well. For more information call 1-800-red-cross.

It is wonderful that people have come together to help after such a tragedy, however, I wish people would donate blood on a more regular basis and save more lives everyday. This nation is in need of blood everyday, not just when such a tragedy happens. I personally donate platlettes every 28 days. Every donation can save up to 3 lives. Your body rejuvenates itself after a donation, and the only way to get blood to give to victims is from human donations. Science hasn't figured out a way to manufacture blood, so come on people, donate on a regular basis. It'll make you feel wonderful knowing you have helped save a human life.
