DURANT, Okla. -- A case of identity theft has been reported in Bryan County.

In a letter sent to a Durant woman about a month ago from asset acceptance, a collection agency for Southwestern Bell, it was stated she had an unpaid account near $1,200.

The victim called the agency and said she did not authorize or open this account which was opened in June 2007 under a P.O. Box in Talihina, Oklahoma.

She told them she was 13 years old when the account was created and did not live in Durant during that time period and had never lived in Talihina.

The agency told camp to file a report in order for the account to be taken off her credit.

There's a big difference between a dot com and a dot gov, there Anon@. Meagan, is a "schredder" a German version of a "shredder?"

www.ftc.com is the website for Feed The Children.

The site is www.ftc.gov Yeah, I agree with Anon@1:20 it can be a nightmare getting anywhere with some of these people, almost as bad as dealing with the Tax Commission!

I have become very concerned with this new wave of crime, and have bought a schredder and have signed up for Identity theft protection from a company called ShieldSafe. They have great reviews and news articles and were only 50 dollars. Try a search on google for them, and get that schredder!

good luck filing a report. the credit bureaus are positively criminal. they have no concern for the law and what is required of them. personally I have sued them 3 times and won all 3 times and going to sue again over a repeated account that I already disputed and won in court! you can go to the federal trade commission website to get a free credit report copy, not the silly ad on tv. www.ftc.com personally, I'd go straight to court and let the credit bureau explain to a judge how they reported a minor owing such a bill. also sue southwestern bell for not properly identifying their customer. there are sections in the fair credit reporting act that require both parties to adhere to. you can file in small claims court and possibly get the maximum $1000 from each party. you can download a 40page copy of the fair credit reporting act online.
