ADA, OK - Pontotoc County eight graders are getting a taste of the real world. Wednesday marked their 2nd annual Career Discovery Day.
Over 400 students from all seven public schools in the county met on the East Central University campus. Each student learned about three different career areas based on a career assessment test students completed earlier in the year. Some of the student's career options include nursing, law enforcement and music.
State Senator Susan Paddack and CEO of the Ada Jobs Foundation, Mike Southard came up with the idea for Career Discovery Day in 2011.
"Eighth grade is really a pivotal year in the life of our students because they are going to have to make some good choices in their high school career," Paddack said.
