Authorities remind drivers not to leave kids in hot car

POTTSBORO, TX-As the weather heats up, locked cars can reach temperatures well over 100 degrees. That can be deadly for young children.
Preston fire captain Timothy Thomas said the inside of a car can heat up to 134 degrees on a hot day. He said, since a child's body temperature goes up three to five times faster than an adults, just a few minutes inside a hot car can put them at risk of severe dehydration and heat stroke.
Thomas said 30 percent of heat-related deaths in Texas last year involved kids left in hot cars.

"Put something that you're gonna need to get out with you in the backseat with your child. Put your purse, maybe a phone because you don't need to be talking in a cellphone while you're driving down the road," he said.

If you see a child alone in a hot parked car, call 911.
