Census: Hispanics remain largest Okla. minority

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A U.S. Census Bureau report shows Hispanics remain the largest minority group in Oklahoma with the Native American population making gains.

The 2011 Census estimates show that Hispanics make up 9.1 percent of Oklahoma's estimated 3.79 million residents and that the Native American Alaskan Native group makes up 8.9 percent. Native Americans and Alaskan Natives are counted as one group by the bureau.

Hispanics surpassed American Indians as Oklahoma's largest minority group in 2010. Hispanics made up 9 percent of the population at the time and American Indians accounted for 8.5 percent.

Blacks were the third largest minority group with an estimated 7.6 percent of the 2011 population.
