FANNIN COUNTY, TX -- A community comes together today to show their support for a Texoman who was recently struck by illness.

Longtime Fannin County resident Jimmy Herpeche has been paralyzed from the waist down since September due to a staph infection that attacked his spinal cord.

Saturday a 5K poker-run and silent auction was set up to help raise money to help with medical bills.

His wife, Becky Herpeche says while doctors say her husband may not walk again he has been showing signs of a quick recovery.

"Amazing. We were told that it could be a year before he'd ever walk and he can now walk 40 feet with a walker, it's a little slow, not perfect, but it's wonderful to us," Becky Herpeche said.

If you would like to donate to the family an account, "Benefit for Jimmy Dale", has been set up at the Fannin Federal Credit Union along 121. in Bonhamfor
