OKLAHOMA - Oklahoma's governor has signed a bill into law that will make some changes to the Department of Human Services.
Representative Pat Ownbey of Ardmore is a part of the House DHS Working Group.
He said while studying the agency it was made clear large scale changes to the agency are critical in preventing the types of fatal mistakes that have been made in the past.
One of the most important changes will be up to voters.
Governor Mary Fallin said State Question 765 will be on the November ballot and would giver the her authority to appoint an agency director and advisory panel.
"Legislation that we will be signing in just a few moments will add transparency, more accountablity, we will restructure some of the services at the DHS and help them operate more efficiently and effectively," Gov. Fallin said.
Lawmakers said they will continue to study the changes going forward in the agency and will pass more legislation if needed.
