BELLS, TX - A Bells man is in a Plano hospital after he was shot by a police officer Tuesday night. Wednesday, police explain what led to the shooting and we hear from the man's father who said it never should have happened.
Cliff Mayhue said his son, Nicholas, was shot in the elbow by a Bells police officer when he tried to resist arrest and Mayhue believes the officer should've used less force.
Bells Police Chief Scott Barrett said the shooting happened around 11:30 Tuesday night a the 300 block of Rosenstein street. 29-year old, Nicholas Mayhue was apprehended by an officer who found he has a warrant for forcible entry out of state. Mayhue ran off and the officer shot him.
Cliff Mayhue said he found his son bleeding on his porch around 2:00 Wednesday morning and he believes Nicholas was unarmed during the incident.
"He's had some other charges, he's not a perfect son. But I just don't think that when somebody turns to run, you don't have the right to shoot somebody just because he had a warrant," he said.
Nicholas Mayhue was transported to Parkland Hospital. Chief Barrett said the officer wasn't hurt and the Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
