New Bryan Co. Sheriff elected after 20 years

DURANT, OK - After 20 years, Bryan County now has a new sheriff in town.

Democrat Undersheriff Ken Golden won 53% of the vote over his opponent, Durant Police Capt. John Wyatt, who got 47% of the votes Tuesday. Golden will take the place of Sheriff Bill Sturch, who has been in office for 20 years.

Golden said he's planning to put inmates to work and continue working on drug problems in the county. He also said he's planning to apply for more grants and increase law enforcement presence in several communities.

"People want to be proud of what they have and I'm willing to believe for the most part that they have been. But times change and we need to move on and do the things that is required today," he said.

Golden will take office in January.
