ARDMORE, OK--The Ardmore Police department will soon be getting new better equipped police vehicles. Yesterday, Ardmore Mayor Keith King along with other Ardmore city commissioners voted to approve the purchase of six new 2013 Ford Police Interceptor Sedans.

Vehicles they say are not only easy on the eyes but will make getting around a lot easier for officers.

"Currently most all the vehicles are in service for at least 2 shifts a day so they get a lot of wear and tear, a lot of mileage on them and six into our fleet lets us replace some cars that are in pretty bad shape" Said Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt.

The new sedans are all-wheel drive which police say will help them respond to emergencies more quickly and safely in bad weather.

"This will be the first time we've had an all wheel drive vehicles and what we anticipate is that when the roads get slick when we have ice or snow that we can get around a lot easier" Said Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt.

King said the all wheel drive will decrease wear and tear on the tires and will also cut other costs.

"Six cylinder vehicles so gas mileage is going to be a little bit better, saving a little bit money there and that's really what the city commission wanted to do is to operate the police department at the most efficient way possible" said Mayor King.

"It suppose to give us the same performance the same ability to respond and drive but with up to 15 % better fuel economy with the rising cost of fuel we look at that as a very important factor that we can save as many tax dollars as we can with fuel" Said Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt.

King said the sedans were in budget and will cost a little over 24 thousand dollars each. They also come with a 10 year 100 thousand mile warranty.

"By having you know safer police vehicles out there on the road where we can get to emergencies quicker and safe it just makes for the safety in Ardmore that much greater"

The new sedans will arrive in a few months. said Mayor King.
