OKLAHOMA - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said there is a shortage of troopers trained to patrol the state's lakes.
OHP Captain Victor Lee said as the summer boating season begins, every troop in the state needs more officers.
Marine enforcement officers carry out boat inspections, investigate boat crashes and drownings.
They also assist in search and rescue.
The Tulsa World reports the lakes are already busy and so far this year Oklahoma has already had five drownings.
Lee said a new class of recruits will graduate soon, making more troopers available to help with water duty.
