MARSHALL COUNTY, OK -- After a week-long boil order hundreds of Marshall county residents say they are concerned about the safety of their water. They want to know why they are not getting straight answers from the water company.

When I spoke with officials at the Department of Environmental Quality they said a sample done about two weeks ago in the Oakview area tested positive for E. coli, but residents said their water company told them a completely different story.

More than 900 residents who live in the Oakview area have been under a Boil Order for a week now.

"We're cooking all day long, water, to wash dishes, to cook with, and to somehow take a bath with" said Mitchell.

Inge Mitchell lives in the Oakview area and said she heard about the boil order from a neighbor. But when that neighbor contacted Oakview water corporation they told her the water was okay.

"They were told the water is fine, you're exaggerating, but we find out different" said Mitchell.

Skylar McElhaney with DEQ said several follow up water samples taken since the original sample tested positive for E. coli on January 25th have also tested positive for total coliform bacteria. In the week since the boil order was issued Oak View Water Corporation was bought by Texoma Water, LLC. We tried to get in touch with the new owner--but our calls were not answered so we contacted previous owner, Lois Sullivan, to ask how the bacteria got into the water. She told us the water is not contaminated but refused an on camera interview.

McElhaney said it is important that Oakview residents know the water has not been cleared.

"When we do lift that advisory we will issue another press release to notify the public that it is okay to consume that water but for now we recommend that residents continue to vigorously boil the water for at least one minute" Said McElhaney from DEQ.

Oakview resident Carol Davis said she is upset because she is paying more for the water she can not use. When she called to find out why her latest water bill increased by $6 Oakview water corporation told her the company had been sold.

"We weren't told that it was going to be sold we weren't told that it wasn't drinkable water we weren't told the prices were going to be raised we haven't been told anything" said Davis.

DEQ said they do not know how the bacteria got in the water and that it is just the Oakview area that is under a boil order. They said they are working with Oakview water corporation to clear the water. DEQ said they do not know when the order will be lifted.
