PONTOTOC COUNTY, OK - Sheriff John Christian knows when it comes to school safety, you can never be too careful.
Christian plans to meet with all seven school districts in the county to make sure everyone is on the same page in case of emergency.
Christian said his biggest concern in case of emergency is response time and since many of the county's schools are in a rural area - he fears by the time his deputies arrive on scene it could be too late.
Christian said his goal is to find a way to get each school a resource officer. "A school resource officer is there during the school hours, knows the students and knows when there is problems and how to respond to those issues," Christian said.
Christian said putting a full time officer on each campus is expensive and there is currently no funding to do so. He said it is something the county will need to discuss in the near future.
