SHERMAN, TX-Dozens of Sherman kids have been transported to another side of of the world without leaving the classroom.
More than 80 students took part in Austin College's 10th annual Thinking Camp at Jefferson Elementary. This year's theme is "india: Land of Mystery," where students learned about the country, its customs, they even learned the traditional dance all taught by Austin College students.
College professor, Dr. Julia Shahid coordinated the program with Sherman ISD covering topics like extreme weather and Southeast Asia in years past. She hopes the Thinking Camp will help broaden students' horizons.
"They get a real appreciation, understanding, a respect for another culture and beyond that, I hope that they really feel like they have employed some deeper thinking skills," she said.
Students can sign up for Thinking Camp at the end of the school year.
