PADEN, Okla. (AP) - A small earthquake was recorded in central Oklahoma just minutes after an earthquake drill was held in the region.
The U.S. Geological Survey reports a 3.1 magnitude earthquake about 6 miles south of Paden in Okfuskee County at 10:29 a.m. Tuesday. The county sheriff's office reports no injuries or damage following the quake.
It occurred after the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management and the Oklahoma Geological Survey held a "ShakeOut" drill at 10:15 a.m.
The drill encouraged residents to prepare for an earthquake by dropping to the ground, taking cover under sturdy furniture and holding on for about 60 seconds.
Gov. Mary Fallin had also declared Tuesday as Earthquake Awareness Day in Oklahoma.
The drill and governor's proclamation come after a 5.6 magnitude earthquake rattled central Oklahoma in November.
