ADA, OK - Pontotoc County Sheriff's Deputies said a District 13 state senate candidate was arrested over the weekend for not paying child support.
Jail officials said Smith was also wanted by authorities for not paying fines to the City of Ada.
In April, the Oklahoma Election board okayed Smith's eligibility to run as a candidate despite his criminal record.
Records show Smith is running against incumbent democrat State Senator Susan Paddack.
The election will take place Nov. 6.
His bond has not yet been listed.
