DURANT, OK -- Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin issued a statewide burn ban Friday.

The ban prohibits outdoor burning in all 77 Oklahoma counties. The Governor's statewide burn ban takes over all county burn bans, and will remain in effect until it is lifted by the Governor.

The Oklahoma Forestry Division determined that the conditions made it necessary for a statewide burn ban.

Charcoal and gas grilling is allowed if it's done at least five feet from flammable vegetation. Campfires and bonfires are prohibited.

"They put the ban on to limit burning big big brush piles and burning off land and things are out of the normal things, but the average person is more or less just a gas grill and cooking outside," said Durant Fire Chief, Roger Joines.
