ARDMORE, OK - An Ardmore man accused of murdering a Madill teen withdraws his original plea of not guilty and admits he did it.
Wednesday, in front of many of 16-year-old Madison Nelson's family and friends, 32-year-old Keith Titsworth admitted to a Carter County judge that he is responsible for Nelson's murder.
Titsworth is sentenced to life without the possibility of parole as part of a plea agreement.
District Attorney Craig Ladd said he originally sought the death penalty in this murder case.
He said the agreement to a life without parole sentence was only reached under the blessing of Nelson's family.
"I was glad to have the case resolved," Ladd said. "Had we gone to trial it would have been a very hard case to try in terms of the emotional toll it would have taken on the family and the uncertainty of a jury trial verdict."
Titsworth is currently in the Carter County jail awaiting transfer to a state prison.
