ARDMORE, OK - Law enforcement agencies across Texoma are cracking down Sunday on drinking and driving.
Troopers say the message is simple. Don't drink and drive.
"If we detect the odor of alcohol or they fail the field sobriety test and there is probably cause then we will be making an arrest," Troop F Capt. Ronnie Hampton said.
The cost for drinking and driving isn't cheap.
"A DUI is going to cost you at least a trip to jail and you are going to get your car impounded," Hampton said.
Hampton said Oklahoma has strengthened its DUI laws. He said now even first-time offenders are required to install a breathalyzer in their vehicle.
AAA Oklahoma is also warning Super Bowl party hosts because they could be held liable if a drunk guest kills or injures someone on the road.
"The homeowner hosting the party that allows people to drink is legally and morally responsible," AAA Oklahoma spokesperson Vicki Quinby said.
National statistics show there is one alcohol-impaired death every 45 minutes on Super Bowl Sunday.
AAA said if you do decide to drink - call a cab, designate a sober driver or stay where you are.
