BYNG, Okla. (KXII) - An 18-year-old is continuing a fire-fighting tradition by following in her father’s footsteps.

Addison McGill, the daughter of Byng Volunteer Fire Chief Chris McGill, passed her training to become the latest member of her hometown’s fire department.

Chris says the Byng Volunteer Fire Department has seen three sets of father and son duos, and Addison is the first daughter to join.

Addison says she decided to join the department to get a head start for medical school.

“It’s really special getting to do something bigger than yourself and knowing you’re impacting these people and helping them when they need it most. It’s just really special that you get to do that,” Addison said.

Addison plans on going to Oklahoma State University in the fall, but plans on fulfilling her fire fighting duties while living in Byng.
