Lake Texoma fishing guide claims COVID-19 has helped business
POTTSBORO, Tex. (KXII) - One industry that claims to have reeled in business since the outbreak of COVID-19: charter fishing on Lake Texoma. One Striper guide talks about how the pandemic has made waves for lake businesses.
“This right now is the perfect storm,” said Striper fishing guide, Bill Carey.
That’s what he calls the COVID-19 pandemic.
“People couldn’t go to graduation. They couldn’t go to weddings. They couldn’t fly. They couldn’t travel. Everybody had cabin fever. What do you do? Go to the lake,” said Carey.
Carey has had his business, Striper Express Guide Service, for 37 years, and says the pandemic only them slowed down for about 3 weeks.
“All the lakes in Texas and Oklahoma are busy now, just swamped. And what a better place to go than the lake?” said Carey.
They’ve been busy reeling in customers 7 days a week.
“Things are good. People are coming to the lake, spending money, ready to get outdoors,” said Carey.
The Texoma community hasn’t hesitated to bring their business back to the lake. The need to get out of the house, away from other families has even lured in many first-timers to the dock.
“Anywhere from a boat sale, to a cabin rental, to real estate, to a fishing charter and a bag of ice, people are here,” said Carey.
During what is already a popular time of the year for visiting the lake.
“Many, many guide services on this lake. Good guys that can put you on the water and catch you some fish and have a great time,” said Carey.
