Denison announces financial assistance for residents through CARES Act
DENISON, Texas (KXII) - The City of Denison announced it will make CARES Act funds available to residents who have been impacted financially by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The city council approved the use of CARES Act funds to be distributed to community non-profit organizations and churches. The funds are available for residents facing economic hardships and can be used for housing-related expenses. Financial assistance cannot be used for property taxes except to prevent foreclosure.
“This is a unique opportunity for the City to partner with our local churches and non-profit organizations to assist Denison residents,” said Mayor Janet Gott. “There are many local organizations with existing programs in place which we can utilize rather than create a whole new program.”
Initially, the city will distribute $50,000 in funding. The resolution approved by the city council provides for up to $150,000 in assistance through December 30, 2020.
Funds will be distributed to non-profit organizations including the Salvation Army, Lakeway Christian Resale Barn and local church outreach programs to help residents who are suffering a loss of income or unemployment.
The city says residents facing economic hardship may contact 2-1-1 for a referral to these organizations with funding.
The requirements for eligibility are as follows:
1. Must be a citizen of Denison, Texas (proof of residency required).
2. Must provide proof of loss of income or unemployment due to COVID-19.
3. At risk of possible foreclosure or eviction (if applicable).
