DENISON, Texas (KXII) - The Denison Yellow Jackets held one of their many life-lesson events for their student-athletes Tuesday. The Denison Police Department led the way with representatives to teach kids safety on the highway. Everything from changing a tire, to rules of the road. It was a good chance for learning a practical lesson, and the athletes appreciate it.

“They are just trying to get us right for the future,” said Denison senior Javonte Briscoe. “This community loves us and we love them too. We just always have each other’s back, they are trying to help us in the future for when it comes to it.”

“It’s very special to us. We mean something to them,” said Denison junior De’Teaurean Johnson. “Whether it’s football or in the classroom, walking around here knowing that you’re a Denison Yellow Jacket.”

- “It’s more than just jacking a car up and changing a tire,” said Denison senior Karsen Ives. “They teach us how to be better students and have better character and be better citizens.”

“That’s one thing that I think is important to teach, is these life lessons,” said Denison police officer Darren Riddick. “There’s more to that in life, to be able to do things and help others.”
