SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) -Tina Taulbee drove up from Dallas for a weekend of celebration for the Fourth of July at Lake Texoma. A holiday and a feeling of pride she said is unmatched.

“As Americans we have our freedom that we need to celebrate, to protect and to be here on this beautiful lake makes us very happy,” Taulbee said. “(It) gives us the whole purpose of being in America.”

Texoma Destinations liaison Beth Hutchinson said Taulbee picked the perfect spot to celebrate.

“People in the area are really in search, and in need of a place to just get away,” Hutchinson said.

Fireworks shows happened at nearby Highpoint Marina and Catfish Bay Friday and the lake was buzzing with activity. Hutchinson said marina party cruises bringing people out to watch the fireworks on the water were all booked. But boat rentals, pontoons and paddle boards will be available all weekend.

Party cruises are only opened at limited capacity, by order of Gov. Greg Abbott, to encourage social distancing. All cruise staff will wear masks and guest will also be asked to wear masks as well until they’re seated for dinner.

Cabin reservations on the lake and RV reservations can only be made online and restaurants around the lake will be at half capacity.

But even with restrictions in place to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, Taulbee said it’s not getting in the way of her plans of “hanging out on our boat and looking at the beautiful skies of Texoma and this beautiful lake.”
