(KXII) - Former Denison powerlifter Kailey Jones won a national championship in 2017 and backed it up with the World Championship that same year.

Jones won at the US Powerlifting Open National Championships in Orlando. She set the record in the squat with a 462 pound lift, and would go on to win a World Championship that same year at the World Sub-Junior meet, representing the USA National Team.

Jones set the state record in lifting with a 1,140 pound total with a top lift of 445 in the dead-lift. She still holds most of the records for her weight class by the Texas High School Women’s Power-lifting Association.

Jones was the number one ranked powerlifter in Texas and ranked highly in the nation.

She got her own day. The City of Denison declared it “Kailey Jones Day” on July 17th, 2017.

After high school, Jones continued her powerlifting career with Midland University.
